What's the Real Story?
Do Healing Gemstones, Crystals and Magnets accomplish their claims to cure what ails us or improve our personal environment?
The controversy surrounding the powers of these crystals has been raging for thousands of years and the end does not seem to be in sight. Almost zero scientific research has been done to verify if the attributes assigned to crystals are fact or fiction. There have been a few published papers discussing magnetism and pain. A few researchers have concluded, in one study, that magnets lessened the pain experienced by polio patients after their disease was cured. In a second study, it was shown that magnets reduced inflammation in rats. This response was not seen in humans.
The FDA has not approved any magnetic devices to cure diseases and and consider it illegal to make claims that magnets have curative properties. (A policy that definitely is not enforced, considering almost all pharmacies, some grocery stores, thousands of magazines advertise and sell some form of magnetic device with claims to cure your pain.) How does this explain the devotion of believers who swear by positive effects of the stones, crystals and magnets they use? Those who have experienced relief remind scientists that 10 years ago acupuncture was considered folklore, too.
