DIY Hairpins Advanced
You've come a long way! Think of how much you've learned. You are graduating to DIY Hairpins Advanced Techniques.
After you master the following wire twisting technique in DIY Hairpins Advanced, you'll be able to easily make the above Ultimate Wedding Hairpin and about any other hair jewelry you can dream up. You are only limited by your imagination.
And best of all, your creations can be made for a fraction of the cost of buying them.
Twisted 1 & 2
- Plan how many twisted spikes you would like, how long each will be and the type and number of beads on each. It might be helpful to sketch it on paper before starting.
- Choose a wire that is soft, pliable, easy to twist. A thin wire will increase its strength when twisted. I still like the 38 gauge metal wire if I'm using small beads. (This was the only wire used in the Wedding Hair Comb above.) Increase the diameter (decrease the gauge) as the beads get heavier.
- Lay out your wire with the beads according to your plan/sketch. If you need 2 symmetrical sides, lay them both out at the same time.
- Take each branch and begin twisting.
Twisted 3 & 4 Continue Twisting each branch, making it as elaborate, with small branches coming off the larger branches, as the wire can hold or as simple as you like.
Twisted %a & 5b For this particular design, after completing the twists, I collapsed the branches/spikes (squished the branches together) and used the free wire ends to wrap around and between the spikes to secure them together and apart.
Twisted 6 & 7 I continued with the wire ends and wrapped them around the comb and between the spikes to attach the twisted wire to the comb.As seen in picture 7 and a little closer view in picture 8 below, I then wrapped the remaining wire around all the spikes because I wanted a tight bunch.
Twisted 8a & 8b Finish off your hair piece by weaving the ends back through previous wire loops. Knot and glue, if necessary, to secure and cover stray ends.

Look closely and you can see many of the jewelry making steps we learned in the previous web tutorials.
Answer:- Multiple beads strung on a wire.
- Beads strung as pendants.
- Perforated disk.
Notice that, since we didn't need to worry about a flat gluing surface, a second perforated disk was added (you can sew or glue this on) to cover the wire ends and give the piece a neater and more professional look. - Twisted wires
- Wire wrapped around a comb
This is my first attempt at writing instructions so your comments and constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated.
Was it helpful? Confusing? Too wordy? Not enough/Too much information, etc.
